Contemporary (1970s) semi-detached town house
The house is in a secluded courtyard off the High Street in the centre of Hastings Old Town. It is 1 minute from shops, 5 minutes from the beach and 10 minutes up to the Country Park or Castle via cliff railway.
The house is comfortably furnished and is on 3 floors with one double and one single bedroom on the top floor. A small sitting room on the ground floor can accommodate an additional single bed (there is a foldaway). There are two bathrooms, on the top and ground floors. The decked courtyard garden is accessed from the lower sitting room. The middle floor comprises a small recently fitted kitchen, dining and lounge area with a balcony looking over the garden.
We also have a cat who could be included in the swap.
About the location
Hastings is one of the historic English Cinque Ports, along with nearby Rye and Winchelsea. There is a long seafront, a recently restored Pier, a working fishing beach, a lifeboat station, an important contemporary art gallery, shipwreck and fishing museum, a lively music and art scene, many quirky shops, fresh fish market, good restaurants featuring seafood, proper pubs, and a near year-round festival scene. Hastings Castle ruins and Smugglers’ Caves are on the West Hill and the 5km Country Park on the East Hill. There are funicular railways to the top of both, and a ride-on railway.
For the more active there is a world-class Crazy Golf attraction offering three 18 hole courses and the world’s largest underground skate park, both on the seafront.
The borough includes St Leonards which offers impressive Georgian buildings, interesting shops, galleries, restaurants and parks. Amongst the things to do in town (between shopping, and visiting the pubs) there is swimming, sailing, walking in the Country Park and along the coastal trail.
It is an excellent place from which to explore the best parts of the South East (Kent and Sussex). Not far away by car, train or bus are several other of the historic Cinque Ports, including Rye; and at Rye Harbour the extensive and accessible nature Reserve managed by Sussex Wildlife Trust. Further on is Romney Marsh and the extraordinary landscape of Dungeness; crossing it the miniature Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway runs from a nuclear power station to a series of beautiful Kent villages beside the sea.
There are good links to London by train and road, to other parts of the south coast or continent via Ashford to St Pancras International (Eurostar), Folkestone (Eurotunnel) or Dover (ferry). Battle, Brighton and Canterbury can be reached by train or car.
