Spacious Victorian family home - London

Twickenham is on one of the loveliest stretches of the River Thames (300m from the house) in the London Borough of Richmond. Family house in a quiet, safe, leafy residential street but within 5 mins. walking distance to train station with fast link to central London (train is 22 mins. to London Waterloo Station). 3 minutes to Twickenham town centre (including Waitrose) and lots of buses, too. Perfect base to explore London.

Very generous Victorian end of terrace family house from 1871, thoroughly renovated and redecorated, with 240 square metres. The top two floors have five bedrooms (one of them used as a study). The second floor has a bedroom with double bed, two bedrooms with single adult beds, and a shower room. The first floor, with high ceilings and period detail, has two bedrooms, one of which is currently used as a study and has an armchair. The master bedroom has a super king sized bed, and on this floor is a beautiful bathroom and separate shower; the toilet is separate. The grand upper-ground floor has two large reception rooms, one of them currently used as a study but with a small settee; the other has two sofas, one of them a sofa bed, and a tv connected to internet, with Netflix. On the lower ground floor are open plan, with a large kitchen with dishwasher and a dining room with very large table seating 10-12 and gas fire, leading out to a two-storey conservatory with a sofa-bed and going out to the stunning southwest-facing garden, part of it terraced; here 6 people can comfortably be seated for meals. There is also a separate toilet off the conservatory (so 3 toilets in the house). At this level is a small laundry room and separate entrance.

We do not own a car as it is not necessary in our area. Off-street parking but only 2.00 m wide, so would not fit a larger car; we could arrange for street parking permits. Our weekly house-cleaning arrangement could be continued.

Spread over 4 floors with steep (mostly carpeted) stairs and therefore not very suitable for very small children. However, we could make available some toys from when our teenagers were young...

Attractions within walking distance or short bus/ferry ride: Marble Hill House, Ham House, Strawberry Hill House, Richmond Deer Park, Kew Gardens, Bushy Park, Hampton Court Palace. Tennis courts, gym and Twickenham Rowing Club within a few minutes walk; Windsor can easily be reached from the station. Twickenham is home to pedestrian-only Eel Pie Island and an artists` colony there. Walks along the Thames to York House Gardens and Marble Hill Gardens (with a playground that attracts families from the whole area) is very popular, including Richmond with its wonderful riverside, shopping and a tube/train station.

No groups for parties or smoking indoors, please. Well-trained dogs are welcome, but no cats due to allergies. As several of us have a cat allergy, we cannot swap with a house with cats (even if the cats are elsewhere at the time).
