Te Mana Farm, Yankalilla
Our lovely stone farm house sits within an acre of native garden with beds of roses, lavender and rosemary. It is on the edge of the town of Yankalilla surrounded by farm land in the western Fleurieu Peninsula. It is 4 km from Normanville and Carrickalinga Beaches and an easy drive to Cape Jarvis and the ferry to Kangaroo Island. There is a peaceful courtyard garden with trellised vines which provide summer shade for the outdoor dining area.
The living spaces - the dining room, lounge room and kitchen - are open plan, light-filled and contemporary. There are 2 bathrooms and 2 large bedrooms with views over the farm and garden. Outside the kitchen there is another dining area on a terrace overlooking the Bungala River.
There is a wonderful variety of birds that use the river corridor and binoculars are provided. It is quite special to sit and watch the bird life and the kangaroos in the home paddock across the wooden bridge. The house is comfortable in both summer and winter with an evaporative cooler for hotter days and a wood fired heater for the colder nights. The farm itself is a cropping and grazing property so only the immediate farm house and large garden are available.
It is a house that is terrific for a couple or 4 people. The Bungala River is in the back garden so unfortunately it is not suitable for children.
By car it is an hour and a half from Adelaide and there is also a daily public bus from the centre of Adelaide.
About the location
The farm house is in a valley on the outskirts of Yankalilla and by car is an hour and half from Adelaide. The Kangaroo Island ferry leaves from Cape Jervis about 40 minutes south of Yankalilla. The Normanville beach is about 4km away with an excellent 18 hole golf course at the Links Mercure Hotel.
The vineyards at McClaren Vale are close by and well worth visiting and the Shiraz from the region is renown. The Willunga Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning. There are many sights to explore - visiting the mouth of the Murray River, walking in Deep Creek Conservation Parks, swimming, whale watching - but the bike path along the old railway through the McClaren Vale vineyards is a favourite activity. You can hire bikes there.
