Spacious family home in great area of Oxford
A characterful and spacious family home located in a safe, quiet and friendly community 10 minutes by car/bus from Oxford city centre and close to the river, walks, shops, pubs and parks. The 1930’s home, part of a crescent built for the management of the expanding car factory in the 1930’s, has recently been improved and expanded by a loft conversion and downstairs extension with open-plan kitchen/ diner/living space, which opens onto a substantial terrace and a 30m long garden.
There are two double-sized bedrooms (one the master bedroom, the other currently a child’s bedroom) and a small single bedroom on the first floor. The spacious loft (with en-suite), is used as a home office, but there is a comfortable pull-out double bed (with real mattresses, not futon).
The garden contains several fruit trees, herbaceous borders, and vegetable beds, as well as a decent-sized trampoline. There are well-stocked bookshelves, a good range of children's toys, and an extensive CD collection (mainly classical).
Unlike most of Oxford, parking on our street is unrestricted, and we have no difficulty finding a parking space (usually outside our house). From our house, access to the city ring road and motorways to London, the south coast, the Cotswolds, etc. is quick and easy (though we hear very little traffic noise).
About the location
We are two minutes' walk from local shops, including a mini supermarket, several take-aways and a restaurant. Regular buses into the city centre (every 10 minutes) go from the shops. Five minutes' walk in the other direction is the ancient Iffley village, on the river Thames, at the heart of which are a Norman church, two pubs and a little community shop. From Iffley, you can walk/cycle into central Oxford along the river towpath -- a pleasant 10-minute bike ride or 30-minute walk.
Oxford is a world-famous university city, containing many beautiful ancient buildings. There are prestigious museums, theatres, attractive parks, rivers (with punting in season), and a bustling shopping centre.
Oxford is within easy reach of London, being an hour by train/coach; during the day, direct trains go to London every 30 minutes; the coach goes every 10-20 minutes. Oxford is also on the edge of the Cotswolds, with its picturesque villages and rolling hills, and approximately an hour's drive from other places of interest: Stratford-upon-Avon, Stonehenge, Winchester, etc. Heathrow airport is approximately 50 minutes' drive away (depending on traffic)
