Our Mountain Hideaway

Deep Creek Lake is the largest inland body of water in the U.S. state of Maryland, which is in Western MD in the Appalachian mountains. It covers approximately 3,900 acres and has 69 miles of shoreline with many lovely coves. Like all lakes in Maryland, it is man-made. We live in a small, rustic townhouse community close and with access to the lake and in a ski-in-out place near the Wisp Ski resort. In the winter, there is skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports. In the summer, the lake and woods come to life and there are summer activities: boating (rent all sorts), water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, golf, tennis, riding, hiking, picnicking, wine tasting, mountain coaster, mountain biking, off-road driving, climbing and rappelling are only a few of the things you can do. The area is in farm and woods country, and there are farmers' markets, state parks and artisans working in local wood, painting, and pottery. Surrounding the lake are small, historic towns that reflect the role they played in the Revolutionary and civil wars. There is a lot of history in the area, and many local historical museums. It is a perfect place for families. Pittsburgh is 2 1/2 hours from the lake; Washington DC and Baltimore MD are 3 1/2 hours away.
