The Garden House near Fortrose in Southland, New Zealand
It's our holiday house - in our garden! The former school teacher's house from the nearby village of Fortrose, built in 1938, we brought it here to our sheltered farm garden in 1990 and have treasured the many visitors it has brought us, from wwoofers to paying guests to sons and daughters of our friends worldwide....
About the location
Welcome to penguin country! Yes we have the rarest species of : penguin (yellow-eyed); dolphin (Hector's); sealion (NZ/Hooker's). Oh we also have a Jurassic age petrified forest at Curio Bay.. this is but the start of my long list of attractions in The Catlins!
We have a family farm which goes back to the first European settlers.. the Scots who came in 1860s.
