Stylish Inner City Terrace - Sydney
Our 1880s terrace house has been remodelled into a contemporary living space.
The house is spacious and comfortable, and cool in summer. At the street entry is a study with desk. A bathroom with shower and toilet is off the passage, which leads into an open plan, airconditioned space with a formal dining area (gas fireplace), gourmet kitchen with breakfast bar, and a concealed laundry. The adjoining sitting room opens onto a leafy private courtyard with a gas barbeque and an outdoor fireplace for the cooler months. In summer the courtyard is shaded by a small woodland beyond the property.
On the first floor level at the rear is a guest bedroom with double bed, full bathroom (including bath) and a study alcove with desk and printer. The main bedroom, with queen bed and ensuite bathroom, leads onto a sunny private deck overlooking the street - perfect for breakfast or an evening drink.
Our house is filled with work by artists we love.
About the location
Set in a quiet leafy street, the house is close to transport, shops and restaurants. It's a stroll to the University of Sydney and you can walk to the harbour in 15 minutes and to Sydney city centre in under an hour.
Sydney's inner west region has a cosmopolitan cafe vibe and diverse population. It is well served by buses, a light rail network and a small ferry that travels in 13 minutes from nearby Blackwattle Bay to Barangaroo in the city. You can hop on the ferry just before sunset and then walk along King Street wharf past buzzy restaurants on the harbour. Our efficient local public transport service connects to Sydney's brand new (2024) metro system and its sophisticated new station designs. The metro gets you very quickly across the harbour to the north shore.
Broadway Shopping Centre is a five-minute bus ride from the house. Glebe Point Road, with its funky bars, pubs, restaurants (Greek, Indian, Lebanese, Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese) and cafes is a ten minute walk. And across the park at the end of our street you'll find the Tramsheds, transformed in 2016 from the old Harold Park tram sheds into a hub of restaurants and retailers, including an excellent supermarket, wine shop, popular gelato shop, medical centre and a fitness centre. Swimming pools, a library, galleries, a cinema and markets are all in the locality or a short bus ride away.
Nearby Jubilee Park on Blackwattle Bay offers our favourite local walk for early mornings or at sunset, with classic views of the Harbour Bridge and Anzac Bridge and easy pedestrian access to the famous Sydney Fish Market. On New Year`s Eve and Australia Day (26 January), the Bay is a great spot to view Sydney's spectacular firework displays.
