Beautiful Cottage in the Scottish Borders

Set in the Beautiful Village of Gattonside, Orchard Cottage is a 10 minute walk from the famous town of Melrose in the Scottish Borders. Orchard Cottage has been our family home for 20 years. I am a Doctor and my wife it an Occupational Therapist. We have two grown up children both at university. One is in her final year of medicine and the other is studying Aeronautical Engineering.

The downstairs of the cottage includes a kitchen, dining room and a lounge. The lounge has a TV, a piano, working fire and patio doors with access to the garden. There is also a study/snug which also has a TV as well as a garage and downstairs bathroom. Both TVs are controlled using Amazon fire sticks, making entertainment easy. The house sleep 8 and has 3 double bedrooms plus a twin room. All the bedrooms have been tastefully decorated and include home comforts such as Elemis products, fresh towels and slippers. There is also an upstairs bathroom which includes a bath and shower.

Outside is a spacious and private garden and across the road is a play park nestled within an orchard. The cottage has beautiful views of the Eildon Hills and is a 5 minute walk to the River Tweed. The cottage dates from the 18th century and is one of the many traditional cottages within Gattonside. The town Melrose is famous for is Abbey (which is the burial site for Robert the Bruce`s Heart) and for being the founder of the the Rugby sevens. Melrose has tennis courts plus many beautiful boutique shops and restaurants.

Orchard Cottage is a 3 minute drive from the Borders Rail way which provides easy access to the centre of Edinburgh in 50 minutes. Edinburgh is the historic capital of Scotland. The international Edinburgh Festival takes place during August and is a fantastic experience. Edinburgh has many tourist attractions and is renowned for its dynamic history. It is a diverse and vibrant city and a fantastic place to visit. Orchard Cottage is also a two hour drive to Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland.

About the location

Orchard Cottage is nestled within a beautiful part of the Scottish Borders. Gattonside is a quaint and pretty village. The village has a play park, village hall as well as two fantastic Michelin guide recommend restaurants. The cottage is a a short scenic walk crossing the River Tweed, to the beautiful town of Melrose and a 5 minute drive to Galashiels which has many supermarkets and shops. The cottage is a 3 minute drive to the Scottish Borders Railway and has access to public transport. The local town of Galasheils has a family friendly swimming pool, tennis courts, gym and a cinema.

Set in a valley, the Scottish Borders is rich in history and boasts many beautiful country walks. The Borders is also an internationally known mountain bike centre, Glentress being a mountain bike Mecca just outside of the historic town of Peebles.

Orchard Cottage is an easy commute to Edinburgh either by car or via the Borders Railway which provides a 50 minute scenic journey into the capital. Both Glasgow and Newcastle can be accessed in less than 2 hours. The Kingdom of Fife is just over the Forth Road Bridge and provides a stunning coast line as well as the city of Dundee which has just opened the infamous V&A.

Overall the Scottish Borders is a fantastic place to visit and is a great location and base to explore Scotland!
