About the location

Skyros is an island in Greece, the southernmost of the Sporades, an archipelago in the Aegean Sea. At 209 square kilometres (81 sq mi) it is the largest island of the Sporades, and has a population of about 3,000. An off the beaten path island with unique character and tradition it makes a perfect destination both for a holiday as well as a longer stay.

The sandy beach of Gialos / Magazia - one of the most popular on the island - is literally a two minute walk from the house! As this is a very long beach it rarely gets busy. This part in particular is quieter than others. Five minutes down the beach there are a number of beach bars that offer sun-beds and umbrellas. Also two minutes walk are two excellent restaurants, a traditional, family-run greek taverna with home-cooked style dishes and an amazing view and a tapas-style place specializing in fish & seafood with a twist. Both these places would come highly recommended regardless of where you ended up staying. On the beach-front next to taverna #1 you ll find a cafe/bar that`s perfect for an early evening drink. On the other end of the beach - a 10-15min walk - is the area of Molos, where there are plenty more restaurants and sea-front tavernas to choose from as well as a few more all-day beach bars. The village of Skyros, the island`s picturesque capital and its most populated area, can be reached by a 15-20 minute walk uphill via a scenic cobbled pathway. Alternatively it`s a five minute drive. Α super-market and a convenience store are also close by.
