Static Caravan Lake Windermere. National Trust Site.
We are on a small (30) offgrid caravan site "Strawberry Gardens" on the quiet side of Lake windermere. You can walk and cycle from the caravan, or use a canoe or boat. The lake shore is 50 yards away, and there are lake views from the caravan. The site has a jetty, and two small sone beaches. Toilet and shower facilities are in a shared block.
The caravan has two bedrooms-one double, one twin beds, and a sofa bed in the lounge.
There is a L shaped sitting area with a dining area. Outside there are several places to sit around and behind the caravan, to eat and have a wood fire.
As the caravan is offgrid (no electric hook up, or piped water-), the caravan runs on propane- for the gas cooker, the gas fire and gas fridge. The electrics come from solar panels and leisure batteries- which also pump water into the van.
Its necessary to the toilet and shower are outwater supply.
About the location
We are on the quiet side of windermere on the opposite shore to Bowness. The Ferry provides regular crossings, or leisure boats stop at Bark Barn. The road to the caravan is a single lane following the side of the lake, over two cattle grids, before becoming untamed for the last mile.
There are walks or bike paths over Claife Heights (or over to the Cuckoo`s Nest Pub), to Hawkshead, Wray Castle or Ambleside. Mostly offload and lakeside, or climbing to views over the lake.
Sawrey has Beatrice Potters House and museum and a small pub.
Hawkshead is a picturesque lakes village, with tea shops, supermarket, village store, post office etc.
