Fully booked for 2024! Modern 5 bedroom detached house, with electric car charging, on the edge of Stroud, next to farmland in the Slad Valley.
Our house is a modern detached property on the edge of Upands, Stroud, in the Slad Valley (an area of outstanding natural beauty).
The house is situated next to farmland, in a quiet, private area of a cul de sac, consisting of 4 houses (not on Streetview). The property is over three floors with three of the five bedrooms having en-suite bathrooms (because we have a nervous cat, we would only be able to offer 2 , or possibly 3 bedrooms, with a maximum occupancy of 4/5 people). There is also a separate family bathroom with a bath.
The lounge, kitchen and dining room are all on the ground floor and yes, there is a further loo! The lounge opens onto a balcony, with views over our woodland garden to the opposite side of the valley. Our garden is half an acre, mostly woodland and wildlife friendly.
We have a double garage, with a POD point for the charging of electric vehicles.
There is good internet connection.
About the location
Stroud is known for being the centre of 5 valleys and is an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), in the Southern Cotswolds. It is home to an award winning farmer`s market held every Saturday.
Our house is in the Slad Valley, next to farmland, on the edge of Stroud, with the nearest public footpath about 5 minutes walk from our door. The Slad Valley was home to Laurie Lee, who wrote Cider with Rosie. Slad is also home to the Woolpack Inn, a beautiful 300 year old pub, which welcomes locals and visitors alike. There are many beautiful walks in the Stroud Valleys.
The Stroud Valleys host many quintessential Cotswold villages, such as Painswick, the Queen of the Cotswolds, which is a 10 minute drive away, as is Minchinhampton Common, where you will find the famous Winstones Ice-cream factory. Other beautiful local Cotswold Villages include Chalford, Frampton Mansell, Minchinhmapton itself, Box, Bisley and Sheepscombe.
Then there are the villages of Purton and Frampton on Severn, both of which are near to the River Severn and the Canal.
Excellent eateries abound in this area, such as The Crown at Frampton Mansell, The Woolpack in Slad and the Lavender Bakehouse in Chalford.
A short drive will take you to Berkeley Castle or, the Forest of Dean, where you can visit Tintern Abbey, Symonds Yat and many other attractions. Gloucester is home to the magnificent Gloucester Cathedral, where the cloisters were used in Harry Potter. For shopping, Cheltenham and Cirencester are about a 30 minute drive, as is Gloucester.
The Northern Cotswolds, including Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold etc, are about 45 minutes drive from Stroud. Bristol and Bath are also around 45 minute drive away and Oxford is around 1 hour 20 minutes drive.
We are also within a short drive from the Cotswold Water Park, where you can hire kayaks and paddle boards. Canoes, paddle boards and kayaks can also be hired for a river trip on the River Wye. Our favourite trip is Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yat, another area of outstanding natural beauty.
There is also an impressive golf course at Minchinhampton, which welcomes day visitors.
