Super central apartment in this attractive city near Barcelona, 15 mins from beaches or mountains

In the centre of the attractive city of Reus (close by Barcelona), seconds from stylish shops and great restaurants, my place is a great base for an authentic Spanish city break, yet under 30 mins to the sea & mountains, and more!

The sunny flat is on a pedestrianised street just by the main square, and is on the second floor (no elevator), with a double bedroom - and a dressing room with a spare bed.

The layout of the flat means it is most suitable for a couple or someone traveling solo. In summary (details below in brackets for the detailed-minded), it's worth noting that the bedroom - though with not much natural light - is quiet to sleep in if there are many people out in the street (for example at the weekends!). And the layout means you have to walk through the main bedroom to get to the living room from the front door.

This is my frequently used second home; it is modest, but well-equipped. There is a washing machine, dishwasher, cooker, oven and combi-microwave. There is air conditioning in the main bedroom (the unit also does heating), and there are pedestal fans, and a couple of plug-in heaters for other rooms. Heat is really only an issue in Jan and Feb, and aircon in July and Aug.
Note, there is wifi, but it is not at all reliable, so best to assume you'll need to roam with your data. But also most nearby cafes offer free wifi; there is free city wifi in the main square and other locations.

(The detailed layout: From the entrance hallway, you enter a space with a door to the bathroom, and a door to a dressing room, which has plenty of storage (and a single bed in it), and is what is called in Spain an `interior` room. The third door leads straight to the double bedroom, and is also an interior room with windows to a light well. Passing through this space, there is a study /sitting area. A door leads to the light-filled kitchen / dining / living room, with a sunny outlook. This large room has a balcony onto the pedestrianised street below).

About the location

Reus is a small city - its centre is elegant, affluent and relaxed, and makes a great base for the experience of Spanish city living like a local, without the tourists, stress and expense of being in the middle of Barcelona!

The flat is in the middle of the pedestranised area, by the main square of Reus, Placa del Mercadal.

It is seconds walk from the thriving cafe and restaurant scene ... in fact, you would find it hard to go for more than a one minute walk in any direction before stumbling on a cafe with a great terrace!

It is also possible in a short hop (easiest by car, but perfectly possible by public transport) to be in beautiful Mediterranean pine forests in the mountains, or on the coastal beaches within 30 mins ... perfect for beach time, excellent wine tourism, and some really enjoyable hiking!
It is 70 mins by train to Barcelona, so day trips there are perfectly possible. All the photos in the listing show how long it takes to get to the location shown from my place.

I love this region, and there is much to see, so if you need suggestions for your trip I will be very happy to help!

Getting around:
From my place, the coach and train stations are 10 mins walk away, from where a range of places are served, such as the beaches (from 20 mins), but also Tarragona, Barcelona, as well as little mountain villages.
However, a car is helpful, and makes exploring beyond Reus somewhat easier. Car hire is easily available at Reus or Barcelona airports. Parking is a breeze in Reus, with a plethora of underground parking garages right in the middle, that cost only €4.50 a day.

Getting there:
In terms of flight connections, Barcelona airport (70 mins drive away) has to be one of the best-linked cities in southern Europe, with frequent direct flights across Europe, the US, Asia, and the Middle East.
But also little ol` Reus is blessed with its own airport (8 mins drive away!) and has flights from many UK and Irish regional cities, from March to October.

It is also possible to get here from the UK by train!
There are two routes.

Either take the Eurostar changing in Paris or Lyon, from both there is a TGV train straight to Barcelona.

OR there is the little-known sleeper train route.
Whatever you might have read about the current situation with sleeper trains in Europe, this subsidised route exists. With a degree of patience, it gets you there! Further details at man at seat 61.
From Paris St Lazarre, take the nightly couchette service to the middle of the Pyrenees, to a one-horse border town called LaTour-de-Carol.
In the last hour, you'll wake up to gorgeous views as you climb up to the border in the middle of the mountain range. The fare from Paris (including the couchette and bedding) starts from only €39! Pack your provisions for the journey!
From the early morning border point atop the Pyrenees, you'll need to get the every-town-stopper commuter train into Barcelona, then change for Reus.
I don't want to over promise with regards to trains, but if all goes to timetable, it is possible to have a lesuirely dinner in Paris, have a decent nights sleep on a train, then get to Reus in time for Spanish lunchtime!
