The best place to enjoy Vancouver!
We built our house in 1986 to be a HOME, so it is comfortable and easy to live in. Outside it is somewhat Craftsman style; inside it is a comfortable mixture of old and new; modern appliances and bathrooms, but some wonderful old furniture. Our home is clean and tidy, but it is also loved and LIVED-IN by 3 generations. So if you are looking for a 5 Star Hotel experience - this is probably not the place for you. The only negative review we have ever had in almost 40 years of Exchanging is the reason we now make this comment! Our accommodation is laid out as follows:
Main level: Spacious kitchen with family eating area; Family room with doors onto large west-facing deck, with stairs to patio and back garden; Dining room with doors onto the deck (there is a BBQ there if you wish to use it); Living room with gas fireplace; Full bathroom.
Upper level: Our Master Bedroom is not usually included in the exchange, because that is where we put all the "stuff" from the other bedrooms! If we are discussing a lengthy exchange (4 - 8 weeks) we would make this room available also. However, the 2nd master bedroom also has a Queen-size bed and full ensuite with jetted soaker tub; 1 additional Queen bedroom; 1 bedroom with 2 Twin beds which can be made into a King; 1 additional full bathroom
The front entry courtyard is very private, totally surrounded by a high fence, and full of trees, shrubs and colourful planters. The courtyard is a wonderful place to have breakfast during the summer months, and to enjoy the company of the birds and squirrels.
Behind the house is a very large, private property backing onto a creek, west-facing and extremely sunny. There’s a large patio with table and chairs; a lawn area; and a gazebo close to the creek, where you can sit in the shade and read when the sun is really hot. We have large fish pond with a waterfall and many fish and flowering pond plants. Although children are welcome in our home, because of the pond we would require that young children be supervised in the garden at all times.
We also have a small garden level suite that is only available through the winter months, but is ideal for guests wanting to ski.
About the location
West Vancouver is considered to be one of the most desirable areas of Vancouver; a particularly private yet convenient location with a unique “Village” character. Outside of rush-hour traffic it is only 30 minutes to the centre of Vancouver, yet it is less then 10 minutes walk to the beaches, sailing, water sports, sea wall, library, recreation and seniors’ centres and many wonderful shops, boutiques, coffee houses and restaurants. There are 3 local ski mountains and several golf courses within 30 minutes’ drive. The bus into Downtown Vancouver stops just a block away if you prefer not to drive. Further afield, you can take a ferry to Vancouver Island or the Sunshine Coast, or drive to Whistler (1½ hours), the top ranked ski resort in North America.
We are only 90 minutes from Whistler/Blackcomb mountains and just 20 minutes to 3 local mountains.
