Limetree Farm
Our home was originally a farm, the first wing built in 1560, the second added in 1660. It is timber framed which gives it immense character, and has a large, interesting garden with ponds, outbuildings (including our library and art studio), sculptural vintage farm tools, and many places to sit, relax and eat. The house and land lie on the edge of a typical serene Norfolk village, which has existed since before the Domesday Book of 1086, surrounded by fields. We have of course modernised so that the house is comfortable to live in during our own period, but we have retained and enhanced as much of the original character as possible. We have weekly help in the house and garden, and this could continue while exchangers were here if they wished. The house is peaceful and lends itself to anyone who wants to write, read, draw, paint, relax. We have a large book collection on many subjects — around the house and in the library. We hope that the house is also interesting just to be in — it's filled with small 'finds' that we have collected over our rather long lives — from Africa, Asia, Australasia and Europe.
About the location
Our home lies in the valley of the river Waveney in calm countryside where crops like barley, wheat and sugar beet are grown, and sheep and pigs are reared. Skies are wonderful, with very special dawns. Peace reigns. Many small picturesque inland towns of medieval origin lie around us, within a short easy drive. There is a long coast to the north and east, with delightful coastal towns and villages from between an hour's and an hour and a quarter's drive from here. Norwich and Bury St Edmunds, both lovely and very interesting historic East Anglian cities, are within a drive of 45 minutes. Cambridge, with all its beauty and intellectual facilities is an hour and a quarter's drive away. London, Liverpool Street, can be reached from the local town by train in one and a half hours. If you are particularly interested in history, we are near to Lavenham, a picture-perfect medieval Suffolk town with a fantastic medieval guildhall. You can also walk in the footsteps of our hominin ancestors on Happisburgh beach; almost a million years ago they travelled the furthest north in Europe of anyone in prehistory. Excellent museums, small and substantial, abound. We leave information about all the possibilities for visitors.
