Our gift to the earth

We call it our gift to the earth because we just had our home built in 2020 and we planned it to be environmentally friendly, solar heated, ADA compliant (no stairs, wide hallways/door openings, and walk-in shower) and on an acre of land landscaped with desert drought resistant plants. An open area with windows facing the south includes the living room, dining area, and kitchen. A gas fireplace is in the living area. We have three bedrooms but one of them is used as a combination office and sewing room. Our subdivision has wide paved streets ideal for walking and cycling and there are three bicycles in the garage for your use. Within a short distance away is the entrance to a popular bike trail that runs along the bank of the Rio Grande River.

About the location

Our home is located in Mesilla Vineyard Estates, surrounded by grape vineyards and pecan orchards, and each lot is at least one acre. It has a very rural feel with beautiful views. Las Cruces is a city of more than 111,000 residents, about half being of Hispanic descent. Because of our mild climate, it attracts a diverse population of retired people moving here from other places. The city takes pride in being multi-cultured and makes an effort to strengthen a welcoming community spirit. Las Cruces boasts more than 320 days of sunshine a year, and is fortunate to have the Rio Grande River running through it which supports a healthy agrarian economy. Just beyond its outskirts runs a chain of striking rugged mountains that provides recreation and a unique scenery that characterizes the city as a whole. Adjacent to Las Cruces city limits and just two miles from us is a quaint old Mexican town called Mesilla, which is a very popular tourist attraction. Some of the finest restaurants in our area are located in Old Mesilla. The town is also a thriving art and culture destination where you can find Native American art, sculptures, paintings, jewelry, clothing, and much more. You will also find the Fountain Theater which presents the best independent, foreign and documentary films in the southwest one-half block from the Mesilla town plaza.
