Dublin Mountain Haven
A unique family home, combining old stone, modern design with eco-friendly materials. This home has many quirky features and a beautiful garden with vegetable beds, poly tunnel and outdoor seating nooks. It`s a place for happy hearts and wild imaginations.
This is a pet friendly home and our outdoor cat Tiddles will be on the property during your stay, she will probably pay you a visit.
This is a charming and quirky rustic home with original stone walls in parts, a natural cob floor in the back area and natural lime plaster on the walls. It`s also a comfortable family familiar with pets and children. Although it is well kept and presented, you are likely to encounter the occasional cobweb or insect so if perfect glass and chrome is more your thing, we suggest you look elsewhere!
If however, you are looking for a countryside hideaway with little nooks, swinging hammocks and in progress garden beds to explore and enjoy, this may be the place for you. If you have an interest in natural architecture, sustainable living and nature at its best, you`ll find it all here.
There are two loft bedrooms for children/teens with one permanent bed in each, we can add a camp bed on the floor for additional child/ren. The stairs to the bedrooms were handcrafted by Martin to fit the space and would need careful supervision with young children (5 and under). Photo enclosed.
The master bedroom has sliding French doors leading to a small deck outside which is very pleasant in the summer. The garden has many beautiful features and areas to enjoy, with swinging seats, a large trampoline and a fairy garden up the top, a poly tunnel, beds and patio dining area out the back. There`s plenty of parking. The bathroom/toilet is shared between all the rooms, it has a deep Japanese tub bath for relaxing and easing sore muscles after hill walking.
The kitchen/dining room is recently extended and has a modern kitchen with steam and electric ovens, an induction hob and any appliances you may need. The dining space is particularly lovely room with big windows and views over the Dublin Mountains and Kippure.
The sitting room in the back has a piano, wifi, TV, wood stove and games and books for all ages. There are more sliding doors at the back leading to an outdoor seating area, BBQ and on down to the poly tunnel. This can be a wonderful place to relax on a sunny day or to cosy up when it`s raining.
The garden has many lovely areas reached by winding paths. There are culinary herbs to pick, and hopefully salad leaves to harvest during your stay. It also has some wilder, less manicured areas.
FYI There is a separate cabin on the property in which two people are living, You may see them occasionally but the two spaces are completely separate, only sharing a drive for parking cars. They have their own outside deck so there would be no sharing of garden or facilities, the main home & garden will be all yours.
About the location
You have views overlooking the Dublin mountains and Bohernabreena reservoir, it`s also possible to walk or drive to the reservoir and do the circumference walk out the gate which is very lovely. Further up into the mountains there`s a wild swimming spot.
We are 16km from Dublin city centre. It`s possible to drive into the city or to the local Luas Tram service from where you can park and ride into the city. There are also buses to the city from the bottom of the hill but there is no local transport from directly outside the house, we are 5-7km from the nearest shop or public transport.
