Cosy Cottage in Northumberland National Park
Welcome to our one-bedroomed traditional stone cottage from approx. 1836 which we have quirkily renovated. The property is fully equipped and is our own holiday home!
The bedroom has a king size bed and single bunk beds. The property is ideally suited to 4 guests (2 adults and 2 children). If you are travelling with additional children (or don't want to sleep all in the same room) there is also a sofa bed in the living room. Although this property technically sleeps six there is only one bathroom and the cottage isn't huge. It would not be comfortable for six adults.
We can provide a high chair and travel cot (please bring your own sheets/bedding for the cot). We don't have safety gates. We have lots of toys and books for children and our special nature box!
There is an open fire in the living room and a wood burning stove in the kitchen. Toasty!
We have a fully fenced private garden with outdoor furniture, a hanging egg chair and a toy/mud kitchen. The gate has a bolt to help keep children and dogs safe.
The property opens out on to the A68 which is a main route between England and Scotland. The road is 30mph in front of the house but this road is something to be aware of.
We are in a remote location with pretty much no amenities directly on the doorstep (there is a cafe 3 mins walk away but do check seasonal opening times). There is a convenience store approximately 5 miles away in Otterburn village and the Redesdale Arms pub/restaurant is 1.4 miles away. There is a well stocked Co-op supermarket in Bellingham approximately 12 miles away. Hexham, a larger town with supermarkets, cinema, restaurants is 28 miles away. You can organise supermarket delivery to the property and I can give you details of this.
You need a car for this property. The nearest petrol station is in Bellingham.
You cannot charge electric vehicles at this property.
There are loads of things to do in the area. We particularly love Cragside in Rothbury, Housesteads Roman Fort, Wallington, Belsay Hall, Kielder, Alnwick Castle and Lilidorei, Bellingham village, Hareshaw Linn waterfall and Hexham town. Northumberland National Park is a Dark Sky Park and there is an observatory at Kielder.
Northumberland has such a rich history and there are the remains of Roman settlements all around the village of Rochester. Keen walkers can access the Cheviots, Carter Bar and the Simonside Hills. We are close to the Pennine Way route.
About the location
You can enjoy a base for walking, cycling and family-friendly activities. Located in a small village this is an ideal retreat for exploring the Scottish borders, Kielder and the castles and coastlines of wider Northumberland. The cottage is surrounded by open countryside for walks straight from the front door.
