The Anthropologist’s House
A two-bedroom Victorian townhouse located in centre of the bustling market gem-town of Cockermouth, on the north-western edge of the Lake District. A Victorian terrace, which is characterful, cosy, spacious and just a little quirky. The decor has a slightly rustic feel with log burning stoves in both the sitting room and attic bedroom. The rooms are all spacious and unique. This is my home, where I live with my son, and reflects my interests in outdoors, arts & craft.
The entrance to the property (that is used most) is actually at the rear of the house, where you will park your car. This entrance leads into a large fully equipped kitchen with a Rangemaster cooker and gas hobs.
The kitchen then leads into the open-plan living and dinning rooms. There is a large library of books on the shelves many of which are nature and outdoors related, as well as philosophical and academic. The dinning table seats up to eight people and there is a large opened fireplace (no fire). The dining room runs into the sitting room which has two large comfy sofas and an armchair, with cosy sheep fleeces (on request) for extra Lake District comfort. The sitting room has a log burning stove, small curved TV with Netflix. You will also be in the company of plants and artworks. Both rooms also contain some Indigenous craftwork’s on the walls, reflecting the owners adventurous travels. The large new sofa can also be use as a double sofa bed (recommended for one for max comfort).
The quirky hall way leads up to a spacious equipped bathroom with a huge bath to relax after your walks in the hills, surrounded by plants and candles. There is also a lovely shower to wake up in the morning and the bathroom receives the full morning sunlight.
Also on the first floor is bedroom 1 - an elegantly light, simple and spacious room that enjoys the full afternoon and evening sunlight streaming in (it’s called ‘Sunnyside’ for a reason!). This contains a king size bed with a luxury deep-pile mattress, made with wool and 100% natural materials. There is a large wardrobe and plenty of places to hang and store your clothes.
Up the next flight of stairs brings you into a large light-filled, open-plan attic room. There are two velux windows to allow natural light to pour in all day. Here you will find a king size, low attic bed tucked cozily under the eaves with fairy lights. The attic room also has a log burning stove and a sofa bed and chair in front of the fire. It has a sound system, clothes hanger and extra bedding box (and mattress topper) should you wish to use the room as a twin or family room, with the sofa bed unfolded. Please confirm in advance if you would the sofa bed pre-made up, ready for your arrival. The attic also has a modern work station with a large curved screen to plug your laptop into and a sit-stand desk as well as a walking pad, so you can keep moving if you’ve work hours to catch up with.
The front door leads out to a lovely patio garden which benefits, like all of the rooms at the front of the house, from full afternoon sunlight and sunset. Great for a bbq (bring your own) and a sundowner in the evening. It has a table for 4 with cushions just by the front door for you to use.
The house is positioned quite high up in the town, giving lovely views out over the town towards to coast to the West.
