A well appointed home in a village overlooking a nature reserve. A great location between town, city & countryside

A well appointed home, sleeps 8, in a village with stunning views overlooking a nature reserve. A great location between town, city & countryside. The property was originally built as a bungalow in the 1970s on the site of the village railway station after the line that connected Harrogate, Wetherby and Leeds closed in the mid 1960s. Hence the property`s name: Platform End. It was lovingly extended upwards into a house and fully refurbished and re-furnished throughout in late 2020 and is now our 'Forever home'.

The accommodation on offer for exchange is over 2 floors. The ground floor comprises a bedroom with double bed (sleeps up to 2). This bedroom has a connecting bathroom with shower that has jack and jill doors allowing it to double up as a downstairs washroom during the day. The downstairs also has the main living space with a sizeable and spacious open plan modern kitchen, dining area and lounge. There are glass sliding doors off the kitchen and dining area onto a terrace that overlooks the garden, Bardsey Beck and the nature reserve. The lounge area also affords the same view through its large picture window. On the ground floor there is also a utility room housing a washer/dryer, additional sink and the cat`s bowls and litter tray. On the 1st floor is the 2nd bedroom on offer. This is a sizeable room that can sleep up to 6 people having built in bunkbeds with 2 doubles at the bottom separated by a staircase leading to 2 singles above. There is also a spacious house bathroom with both a large walk in shower and a stepped up bath with views over the nature reserve. There is underfloor heating throughout the downstairs providing an ambient comfortable temperature throughout the year.

The property stands in a prominent position as you enter the Close from A58 Leeds to Wetherby road. There is off road parking to the front. To the rear with the house being built on the disused railway line it occupies an elevated position, which overlooks a nature reserve. The well stocked garden (herbs and fresh produce available to pick and use dependant on the time of year) is tiered over a number of levels leading down and with access to the stream (Bardsey Beck). It is south west facing and on sunny days attracts the sun from around 11am until it sets with great views over the nature reserve. There is plenty of outdoor seating and dining space with a choice of the terrace off the dining kitchen area, a large wooden decking area and covered area under the terrace on the next level down or the decking area a further level down overlooking the stream.

Please note that due to its elevated position to the rear the lower levels of the garden off the terrace are accessible only by steps and there is access to open water. It may, therefore, not be accessible to those with mobility issues and young children will need parental supervision.

The property comes with an elderly female cat by the name of Tilly who is easy to look after and well house trained when she isn`t laying around keeping herself to herself in the garden.

About the location

Bardsey is a village steeped in history dating back to the Anglo Saxon era, with All Hallows Church dating back a near 1200 years and the Bingley Arms pub and restaurant reputed to be 1 of the oldest inns in England. They are a 7-8 minute walk away from the property.

The village offers a wonderful blend between village life, town, city and countryside. Collingham is 3km away and offers an array of shops, restaurants, takeaways, pubs and a mini supermarket.

The property is just 13.5km from the cosmopolitan Victorian city of Leeds with it`s main line train station with connectivity to London. The nearest urban centre is the market town of Wetherby 6.5km away, which is a 10 minute drive or a 15 minute bus ride on the X98 bus or 20 mins on the X99. The bus stops are a minutes walk from the property and the same buses, X98 and X99 run into Leeds in just over 30 minutes.

Leeds Bradford is the closest airport only 19.5 km away. Another option is Manchester Airport. Whilst this is just over 100km with really good road connections the journey only takes 1 hour 15 minutes. The same can be said about the drive to and from the Hull P&O North Sea Ferry terminal.

The lovely Spa town of Harrogate is just 18km, the beautiful historic market town of Knaresborough 24km and the walled Roman City of York 34km. The East Coast of England (with resorts such as Whitby, Scarborough & Bridlington) is around 100km / 1 hour 30 minutes drive. Skipton, known locally as the access to the wonderful Yorkshire Dales National Park, is 45km. Although there are lovely countryside and woodland walks right on your doorstep. All in all there is much to do and see in beautiful Yorkshire.
